Fundamental Questions Seminar
The Fundamental Questions seminar is a quarterly reading group designed for undergraduate students – Catholics and non-Catholics alike – at the University of Chicago. By fostering intellectually rigorous conversation around culturally resonant texts, we aim to allow students to experience the force of the deep existential concerns which animate our lives
Nicklin Fellows Program
The Nicklin Fellows are the recipients of a competitive, application based fellowship for undergraduate students. The fellowship is accessible to Catholics and non-Catholics alike. Nicklin Fellows are granted exclusive access to research and development grant funds to pursue their intellectual interests.

West Suburban Catholic Culture Series
Our offering for those who live outside of the city and may not be able to attend our downtown programming easily.
Each session offers a sophisticated yet accessible lecture by an accomplished academic over dinner. The lectures introduce key insights from the treasure house of the Church’s intellectual tradition and their bearing on contemporary themes and issues, presenting faithful Catholic teaching in a way that avoids the acrimony of the culture wars. Each year, a new theme is introduced.
Magis Lectures
The Magis Series on Faith and Reason, a collaboration between the Lumen Christi Institute and the Chicagoland Jesuit high schools (St. Ignatius College Prep and Loyola Academy), offers engaging, accessible lectures on the Church’s intellectual tradition. These events, open to all—from high school students to retirees— to explore and deepen their understanding of faith and reason.

Schola Antiqua
Schola Antiqua is a professional vocal ensemble dedicated to the performance of music composed before the year 1600, and serves as the Lumen Christi Institute’s Artists-in-Residence. Executing pre-modern repertory with “sensitivity and style” (Early Music America), Schola Antiqua takes pride in providing the highest standards of research, performance, and education involving many underserved repertories in the Western musical canon. Michael Alan Anderson, the Artistic Director of Schola Antiqua and a graduate of the University of Chicago, works closely with the Institute to deliver concerts and workshops on the Church’s great treasury of sacred music.
