This week is National Estate Planning Awareness Week. It’s the perfect time to learn more about the best way to ensure your future, and the future of those things you hold most dear.
Donors to the Lumen Christi Institute know that their generosity has brought the wisdom of the Catholic intellectual tradition to countless students at the secular university. Their gifts are priceless and will stay with these students for the rest of their lives.
When you donate to a charity that’s meaningful to you, you usually receive the gratitude of the organization, and the satisfaction of knowing that your generosity has made an impact.
However, today, we want to share with you a new way you might consider giving to Lumen Christi that both benefits the students and helps to support your financial stability. This is what’s known as a Charitable Gift Annuity.
Here’s how it works:
-You make a gift of money (including your IRA, if you are over 70.5), securities, or appreciated assets–avoiding capital gains tax–to your favorite charity. The gift will be invested during your lifetime and then paid out to your charity.
-Depending on your age, you are assured a fixed percentage of the gift back each year, ensuring that you have a continued stream of reliable income, regardless of the stock market. A portion of this annuity is tax-free.
-The remainder of your gift will be paid to your charity, ensuring that your philanthropic commitments are met.
-You also have the option to add another individual as a beneficiary of this annuity.
