Generative AI is capable of producing polished, textual descriptions of information at astonishing speed. However, as Pope Leo XIV has observed in his encyclical Magnifica Humanitas concerning the use of AI, “Without careful attention, an educational system lacking in a love for truth may emerge, in which an incessant flow of information replaces the essential exercise of research, reflection and discernment.”
Given this concern, how might the contemporary academy best ensure the continued development of an authentically human education rooted in reflection, intellectual virtue and truth while also best utilizing the processing capabilities of new AI tools?
