Thomas Merton is one of the most influential spiritual writers of the 20th century. His autobiography, Seven Storey Mountain, tells the story of a restless and brilliant young man who goes from a literature student at Columbia University to taking vows as a Trappist monk. In this two-part, one day master class, we will look at Merton’s education at Columbia leading up to his conversion to Roman Catholicism and then pick up his intellectual journey twenty years later by examining the content and continuing relevance of his “Cold War Prophecies.”
