Schola Antiqua commemorates the quincentennial of the death of Pierre de la Rue (d. 1518), one of the most talented and highly-prized composers of the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. In the service of the wealthy and influential Habsburg-Burgundian court, La Rue actively wrote in all of the major musical genres of his time, and this is echoed in the program's design. Highlights from his carefully constructed masses include music for very low voices at the composer's disposal. Some of his beloved motets and songs complete the program. This program is sponsored in part by the Lumen Christi Institute and by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council.

Schola Antiqua, Artists-in-Residence at the Lumen Christi Institute since 2008, is a professional vocal ensemble dedicated to western liturgical chant and polyphonic music before the year 1600. The ensemble is the 2012 winner of the Noah Greenberg Award, given by the American Musicological Society for outstanding contributions to historical performing practice.
