Join us for an evening of prayer with Benedictine Monks at the Monastery of the Holy Cross. Students will participate in the prayer of the Divine Office (Vespers and Compline), dine with the monks, and learn about the Benedectine tradition of Sacred Reading or Lectio Divina with Fr. Peter Funk, O.S.B., prior of the monastery and alum of the University of Chicago. Divine Reading is an ancient Christian practice of reading scripture that includes reading, meditation, prayer, and contemplation (Lectio, Meditatio, Oratio, and Contemplatio). This is an excellent opportunity to get into the prayerful spirit of Lent.

SCHEDULE:

4:00pm: Meet at Gavin House (1220 E. 58th St.)
4:30pm: Depart from Hyde Park
5:00pm: Arrive at the Monastery of the Holy Cross, Welcome and Introduction
5:15pm: Office of Vespers
5:40pm: Dinner
6:20pm: Introduction to Lectio Divina by Fr. Peter Funk
7:15pm: Office of Compline
8:00pm: Arrive back in Hyde Park
