[Message from our Executive Director, Daniel Wasserman-Soler]
Dear friends,
In the season of Lent, the Church calls us to reflect upon Christ’s years of ministry. In pondering His revelation and His divine miracles, I am particularly reminded of one essential part of Christ’s journey toward Jerusalem: He did not travel alone.
One of our recent reading group leaders, Jack Drury, shared how Lumen Christi’s reading groups affected him during his time at the University of Chicago:
“Through the reading groups Lumen Christi offered, I found a community that was dedicated to growing in both the intellectual and moral virtues. Through the pursuit of wrestling and engaging with the Catholic intellectual tradition, that community soon became a group of close friends. The relationships formed through these reading groups anchored my studies in Christ and in the truth, in the middle of a secular university.”
The imitation of Christ calls us into fellowship with one another. Since 1997, the Lumen Christi Institute has dedicated itself to ensuring that university students can live out this imitation through Christ-oriented friendships.
This commitment is exemplified through our weekly, student-led reading groups. These reading groups offer University of Chicago students the opportunity to rigorously investigate a text with their peers, sharing food and fellowship as they pursue life’s fundamental questions. The friendships our students form will go on to sustain their lifelong pursuit of knowledge and its divine source!
This Lent, will you help students like Jack imitate Christ’s fellowship with His disciples, providing them with the friendships they need to support their academic and spiritual growth?
The friendships that students build through these reading groups will continue to sustain them as they pursue their vocations and careers. I am continuously encouraged by our students’ thirst for knowledge, which goes beyond their specific majors to encounter the holistic nature of Christ’s truth and His Church.
Your donation to Lumen Christi’s annual fund by April 4th allows students to explore the questions in their hearts and form a community that will sustain their pursuit of the truth.
Thank you for your support in helping our students continue on their journey into the light of faith.
Yours in Christ,

Daniel Wasserman-Soler
