SUMMARY:Is the Universe Made for Life? Anthropic Coincidences and Multiverse Ideas
DESCRIPTION:Free and Open to the Public. \nThe late Stephen Hawking wrote\, “Our universe and its laws appear to have a design that is both tailor-made to support us and\, if we are to exist\, leaves little room for alteration.” What lies behind such a claim? And what might explain such a remarkable fact (if it is a fact)? Join us as Dr. Stephen Barr speaks on both the science and the speculations surrounding anthropic coincidences. \n\nThis convening is open to all invitees who are compliant with UChicago vaccination requirements and\, because of ongoing health risks\, particularly to the unvaccinated\, participants are expected to adopt the risk mitigation measures (masking and social distancing\, etc.) appropriate to their vaccination status as advised by public health officials or to their individual vulnerabilities as advised by a medical professional. Public convening may not be safe for all and carries a risk for contracting COVID-19\, particularly for those unvaccinated.
